The Long Tail of Social Networks.

Too much information is a growing challenge on the web. One way that people get past that challenge is by joining a community where information can be shared- the type of information the person is seeking.

Specialization is a sign that the web is maturing. Niche social networks focus on smaller groups and with that focus they bring alive the concept of “belonging” to a “community”. The concept of the large, generic, “community for all” may eventually feel a migratory loss and pressure from these “specialized communities”.
